Smoot Construction is the majority partner in a three-firm joint venture providing preconstruction and construction management services to Columbus City Schools.  The team is currently working on the first two segments of the District's Facilities Master Plan.  The scope of this work includes the construction of 24 new schools, additions and/or renovations to 15 existing buildings, and the demolition of 8 building that have become obsolete or are being replaced.

As part of our early involvement, we assisted the District's architects with their review of the individual facility assessments.  We then worked closely with the District to organize the facilities by location, and then to rank and prioritize the construction/renovation work such that those facilities were most in need of attention would be the first to be addressed.  When developing the schedule for the overall program, care was taken so that no specific geographic area within the District would find themselves with a shortage of space for their resident student population.

We subsequently reviewed the budgets of each individual school building included under the first two segments and verified them based upon current economic conditions, and the District's overall needs and available resources.
